January 9 Big Digger Info

ATTENTION GARDENERS: It’s time to ease ourselves back into gardening mode. To that end we will meet this Saturday, January 9th at 10am in the garden. Colin will be there to show us how to prune our grapes and how to propagate them if we wish. There have been some interesting developments over the holidays and so we will have a short information meeting. And there is always seaweed to collect for the compost piles. All are welcome.

  1. Report from the Garden Jan 9th:

Lots of seaweed has been layed with leaves (8 garbage-cans of fresh seaweed and 8 bags of leaves per layer) and the big compost is steaming away and cooking down. Very gratifying. :>)

The Strawberry tower looks really good. Have a look for it by the herb garden front left. Looking forward to the berries hanging down off this beach combed lumber.

Winter planted corn salad and broad beans are up and looking small but healthy.

Rye seed cover crop is sprouting slowly and looking like mini-root jungle of white fuzz. Pretty funny how long it's taking to grow a green stalk.

Greenhouse is tending toward fuzzy moulds, but as soon as the daylight hours get longer, at least 55% or more of the mesclun should spring back to life.

Please add more observations here or on any other COMMENT area that seems relevent.

    Best, the non-spell checking, Jen.
